HSR Billbook started from a plain observation: most Indian businesses do not have a billing problem. They have a month-end problem.
Billing itself is easy. What costs businesses their evenings is everything downstream — the register that has to be rebuilt by hand, the invoice number nobody can account for, the stock figure that stopped matching the shelf two quarters ago, and the question “how much are we actually owed?” that takes a day to answer.
Most tools solve the easy half. They produce a good-looking invoice and leave the hard half to a spreadsheet that only one person understands. When a notice arrives, or a partner asks for numbers, or the person who maintained the spreadsheet leaves, that gap becomes expensive.
HSR Billbook was built the other way around. Every document is numbered and taxed by the server, frozen once it is issued, and filed into the right GST register the moment it exists. Stock moves through a ledger that names the document that moved it. By the time filing is due, the work is already done — because it was done as you billed, not afterwards.
The goal is unremarkable and hard to achieve: a month-end where nothing surprising happens.

Correct beats convenient
Where the two conflict, we choose the answer that survives an audit. That is why an issued invoice cannot be edited, and why reversing one means a credit note — the way the law intends.
The server decides
Numbering, tax and permissions are settled on the server, never in the browser. A client can be wrong, tampered with, or three versions out of date; the record should not be.
Fast on the hardware you own
Most billing happens on a mid-range phone or an old counter PC on a shared connection. That is the machine we optimise for, not a demo laptop.
